Introducing: Sevvie, my ABJD

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
OK first of all.. This is a conglomerate of several posts made over at L***Journal. So some of you may have seen some - or all of this - before.

It also means that this post is extremely picture-heavy and will take a while to load. In the future, I promise to post Sevvie in smaller doses here ;)

And and then, just before the cut, a small explanation to those who may wonder WTF an "ABJD" is. It stands for Asian Ball Jointed Doll. Posable dolls made out of resin. As these dolls are handmade, they're priced accordingly, so at the moment I only have one *sniff-sob* (well and my daughter has one, she was the one who introduced me to this hobby...

Anyway.. off to the spam:

First the obligatory arrival-party. It's customary to post pics of a new doll being unwrapped, and so I'm lemming enough to do like everybody else...

The box. Luts? What? It should say Dollzone?*_*

Ah. A box in a box. This time with the proper logo on it!

MSC. Check. Wig. Check. Pillows. Check. Pink envelope?! Wonder what's in there?

Underneath it all. A Bubble-wrap mummy.

Hello handsome!
Sev: HUH?! Where am I?!

With a wig on Sev looks a lot more real
Sev: Who are YOU?!

Sev: And where is my WAND?!

Ace: If THAT is your wand it sure is tiny...
Sev: GAH! Stop staring at my privates! I demand PANTS!

Sev: I don't believe it! This just isn't happening to me!

*Gives Sev his wand*
At last! My arm is complete again!
Me: Haven't I heard that somewhere before?

Sev: My wand must be malfunctioning. I'm sure I didn't conjure up THIS kind of clothes...

Sev: It's all YOUR fault, I'm sure!

Ace: Here's a lovely t-shirt for you. That's what was in the pink envelope. You like pink, right?
Sev: PINK?! Insolent brat! Avada Kedav....

...

And just a few more because he's really so lovely...

A proper backdrop for a proper Slytherin...

Pretty, isn't he? Even without a faceup...

Artsy-fartsy...

Then, a few from the next day (March 1st) where I managed to put some paint on his face. It's a lot harder than I thought and no, I'm not satisfied with the eyebrows. But I plan to modify (as in sand and resculpt) his nose at some point and then it'll all be redone anyway...

Aaaand then... You're probably wondering just how big this doll actually is?
Well here you go. He's 70 cm tall. I'm 160cm. He's almost half my height *LOL*

Oooh and lookie! I can sew! I never knew I could sew but everything Sevvie is wearing on these pics.. is made by meeee

Of course.. being Sevvie, and me being me, I had to make a Snarry pic with him. With my Kid's doll posing as Harry (she was actually the one to come and pose them like this...)

(Almost there now...)

Here's a little photosession from when SEvvie discovered that he wasn't the only Snape in the house...

Say.. what's all those little figures up here?

Hmm. there's slightly less messy here than on the desk. But more cobwebs though... For that homely dungeon feel?

Hey, there's a porcelain figure dressed like me!

You are NOT planning on putting me up on that shelf as well, are you? I won't have it! I'll get bored to tears there. And get cobwebs in my hair, too!

And finally (yes, the end is near!) a few pics I took yesterday. First time I had him outside and he managed that quite well. But he IS the Emo Prince for sure...

OK there you go. Blame [info]kabal42 for pestering you with it all ;)
  • I'm not sure I could live with a doll that 'present'! a few of those photos are really stunning. and of course I love the Snarry one!
    He's beautiful!
    • It's funny you should say so. I know these dolls tend to creep a lot of people out. Not me though. I like him. I talk to him. Comfort him if he topples over (seriously.. I was mortified afterwards) but he's still not ... really real.. As in.. he's so obviously still a DOLL. And dolls aren't any different from my 200 owls or all my Snapes or other weird things that I collect *L*

He IS "present" though. In a way no other doll I've ever had, is. :)
      • that's great that you are making things for him to wear.
I have a suggestion about the eyebrows, if you want to hear it
  • I thought your renders were fabulous, but your eye for pictures - gods woman! You are a goddess!

  • LOL! I was wondering when you'd fall for an ABJD! ;)

Wow, this post was wonderful, one moment I was laughing my head off and the next I was rendered speechless by the beauty of him! I'm looking forward to see more of your Sevvie.

BTW, I've got the same Draco poster on the back of my bedroom door.

    OWL LOVE!
    • Darling twin! Where have you been for so long?!

(I've read all your lovely replies but excuse me for just replying on this and perhaps a few more... Chalk it down to pure laziness - and the fear of repeating myself ad nauseam *L*)

WHY doesn't it surprise me that you know about ABJD's in the first place? Do you have any? Most people look like living questionmarks when these dolls are mentioned. But not you, of course. Not my twin!

Oh and you know what? I have an Alan head on the way! Yep. An Alan Rickman Special sculpted ABJD! Now isn't THAT something? Now I can combine almost all my insane hobbies into one! Alan, Snape and ABJD. All I need is to find a miniature bento box and take a picture of my Alan-doll dressed as Snape, holding a bento...In a train. And my life will be complete! *ROFL*

But seriously, it's on its way, it has been shipped from the US where another Rickmaniac who has been in charge of the order, lives! And she even has CL as her favourite Alan Movie, too! I've more or less appointed her to yet another Lost Twin, although you'll always be my number one identical lost twin! (As far as I know, SHE doesn't collect owls so you're at an advantage, there!)

Erhm and speaking of these dolls, I have yet another doll on the way, it's currently at the Danish Customs (gawd I hope they decide he looks cheap...) - he'll be my Harry when I'm done with him *GG* So.. yes I've found another bottomless pit to throw my money into *LOL* But it's worth it! These dolls are something special!

And BTW This IS a case of synchronisity, because I've thought about you TODAY! - since another Spanish doll collector has bought the same doll as I'm waiting for. And whenever I see "Spain".. I think of you!

I've MISSED YOU dear! Where have you been? And what do you think of Sweeney Todd? I just saw "From Hell" tonight (it was on TV) and .. well Alan is Alan of course, but Johnny Depp.. is a very close second *GG*

Mmm And I remember that draco poster form a pic you posted ages ago. With owls on, as well :D (I've bought a miniature, feathered owl for my Harry. Long before I even decided to GET a Harry. I just saw the owl and bought it! It's white and everything and I think it'll look just right with these dolls. I just wonder if I can get a bird cage that fits. Perhaps I can make it somehow... But I've seen small cages on other people's pictures so I think they're fabricated. All I need to find out is where to get them. I'll try eBay...

It's so good to hear from you! I hope everything is ok? :o)

      *HUGGGGGGGGS* to my favourite twin!
      • I've MISSED YOU too my dear twin *smooches*. Unfortunately, I must retire again :(. I would like nothing better than to hang around the net and bask in The Alanness, but alas, it's impossible for the time being. As I explained some days ago in my LJ I'm very busy not only with my classes but with my preparation for a competitive exam I will be taking in June. It's an exam to apply for a permanent post in public education. I don't have any chance to get a post but I have to take it in order to keep my position as temporary teacher. Apart from my busy life everything is OK around here and I will be free again in July :). However, I'll try to keep an eye on the fandom from time to time.

I've seen Sweeney Todd and I LOVED it! Tim Burton is a genius, I adore the fantastic and eerie atmosphere he creates in all his movies, and all the cast was fabulous. But, as always, I had the strange feeling of pitying/lusting after the "wrong" character that I have whenever Alan plays the baddy ;). I have only seen the movie once because I don't like it dubbed. Well, the songs weren't dubbed, just the dialogues, but still I don't like it. It sounded weird listening to Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter or Alan Rickam with different voices in the same movie.

As for my knowing the ABJD world, well, I don't have any, but I know them because I have a Spanish friend in LJ (my only Spanish LJ friend I must say, how curious) who is mad about them. She started posting pictures of her BJDs in her LJ some time ago, but recently she's created a LJ community. Here's the link in case you're curious: http://community.livejournal.com/planeta_keko/

I miss you badly and whenever I see "Denmark" or "Snarry" "owls" I immediately think of you too, honey. Speaking of owls, did you know this LJ community?: http://community.livejournal.com/owlihotornot/ It's teh cute! ^___^
